day 7 in the land where they serve ketchup with pizza
freshmeat: i'm sorry. wait. no, i'm not.
today we went to the over-stuffed Egyptian Museum in Cairo. we weren't allowed to take photos once we were inside. but the place is a mess. works are placed haphazardly within a room. but if you ignore all that you are really surrounded by some rather remarkable works (with the occasionally pointed remark from the guide about certain pieces being abroad [most notably in the British Museum]).
after that we were taken to The Citadel in the center of Cairo. it gives a very (smoggy) view of Cairo (the Giza Pyramids can be seen in the distance...once you penetrated the smog).
after that we were taken to The Hanging Church (which was where our guide attended services when he was a child). The insides of Coptic churches are beautiful.
and that was it...the next day we leave for Alexandria...
